The MILITARY DELAYED ENLISTMENT OR

FUTURE SOLDIER PROGRAM

One way to  join the military is to enlist before you graduate from high

school.  Students are often led to believe that if they signed a contract

before the age of 18, that they are obligated to continue and officially join the

military when they turn 18.  Some very important information for everyone to

know:If you change your mind about enlisting before your report date for

basic training, you may separate from the Delayed Enlistment Program

without penalty.  This separation does not affect anyone’s record, they

cannot be declared AWOL, there is absolute no penalty.   A student who has

changed her/his mind can simply write a letter addressed to the commander

of the recruiting station where the student signed her/his enlistment papers.

The letter should state only that the student desires separation.  Following this

action, the student is under no more obligations to the recruiters or any other

representative of the military.
